How much does a website cost in Malaysia? Honestly.
Short answer: a properly built small-business website starts around RM1,000, and most businesses land between RM2,000 and RM6,000. Here is where those numbers come from, and the questions to ask anyone quoting you.
Why quotes vary so wildly
Ask five people for a website quote in Malaysia and you will get numbers from RM500 to RM50,000. That is not dishonesty, it is that "a website" can mean anything from a template filled in over a weekend to a custom build with branding, copywriting, and search work behind it.
The price is really the answer to three questions: how many pages do you need, are your words and photos ready or does someone have to create them, and is there anything custom, like bookings, online payment, or original illustration.
The honest ranges
Below RM1,000, someone is cutting a corner you will pay for later, usually in a site that cannot be found on Google or falls over on phones. Above RM10,000, you are buying agency overhead unless the project genuinely needs custom features.
The costs nobody mentions
Your domain name costs RM60 to RM120 a year, and it should be registered in your name from day one, not your designer's. Hosting runs from free to about RM30 a month for a small site. Ongoing care, if you want updates and small edits handled, is typically RM100 to RM300 a month and should always be optional.
The one question that exposes a bad deal: "if we stop working together, what do I keep?" The right answer is everything: domain, site, and content.
Questions to ask anyone quoting you
- Is the price fixed in writing before work begins, or is there an hourly meter?
- Will my site be found on Google, and what exactly is done to make that true?
- Who owns the domain, the site, and the content when we are done?
- Who am I actually talking to, the maker or an account manager?
