How do I get my business to show up on Google?
Short answer: three things get you on Google. A Google Business Profile, a website Google can actually read, and pages that answer what people are searching for. No tricks, and no monthly retainer needed to start. Here is the honest checklist.
The honest checklist
Showing up on Google is not magic, and it is not a secret only agencies know. It comes down to three things, in the order that matters most for a small local business: claim your Google Business Profile, make sure your website can actually be read by Google, and publish pages that answer what your customers type into the search bar. Do those three and you are already ahead of most of your competitors.
Start with a Google Business Profile
This is the free listing that puts you on Google Maps and in the little box of local results at the top of the page. For a local business it is the single biggest win, and it costs nothing. Search "Google Business Profile", create one, and verify it.
Worried about privacy? You do not have to show your home address. Set it up as a service-area business, hide the address, and list only the areas you serve, like Kuala Lumpur or Selangor. You still show up for local searches without putting your house on the map.
A website Google can read
Google reads text, not pictures. A site that is one big image, or slow, or broken on phones, is hard for it to understand and rank. What helps: real words on the page, a clear title and description for each page, fast loading, and a layout built for phones first. A properly built small site does all of this by default, which is a large part of what you are paying for when you pay for one done right.
Answer what people actually search
Google wants to show the page that best answers the question someone asked. So the surest way to be found is to genuinely answer your customers’ questions, in plain words, each on its own page. That is exactly why this journal exists: "how much does a website cost in Malaysia" is a real thing people search, so we wrote an honest answer to it. Do the same for the questions in your trade, and you become the result Google is looking for.
How long it takes
Longer than anyone selling you SEO will admit. A Google Business Profile can show up within days. Ranking a website for competitive searches usually takes months of having a solid site and steadily answering real questions. Anyone promising page one next week is selling you something. The honest path is slower, cheaper, and it lasts.
